Microneedling Q & A

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is an incredibly versatile treatment that takes advantage of your body’s innate healing abilities. It relies on a sterile treatment device covered in very thin needles. These needles penetrate the outermost layers of your skin, creating thousands of tiny channels into the deeper layers.

Your body perceives each of these punctures as a microinjury, and rushes to launch a healing response. Circulation to the area promptly increases, and your body begins creating new collagen cells. This smooths and plumps your skin from within.

What kinds of skin issues can microneedling improve?

People love microneedling because it offers the chance to address more than one skin complaint at once. Some of the issues that microneedling sessions can improve include:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Enlarged pores
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Stretch marks
  • Acne scarring
  • Loose or crepey skin
  • Areas of uneven pigmentation

The ability to treat more than one issue with the same treatment makes microneedling a great value, as compared to having multiple different treatments.

Is microneedling painful?

All this talk of needles, punctures, and healing may lead you to believe that microneedling is an excruciating process. In reality, most people find treatments easy to tolerate.

Melissa applies a special numbing cream before your treatment. This reduces sensation in the treatment area. You might feel a mild stinging or burning sensation as she moves the treatment handpiece across your skin, but there is no significant pain.

It’s a good idea to give your skin a break in the days after your treatment. Applying a mild moisturizer can help reduce redness and hydrate your skin, and as always, sunscreen is essential.

Expect a degree of swelling, tenderness, and redness for a day or so after your visits. It doesn’t take long for your skin to heal, and you can see your treatment results develop over the coming weeks.

Most people achieve optimal results after a series of several microneedling treatments. Visits are spread out over time to give your skin a chance to adjust after each microneedling session.

When you’re ready to explore microneedling in greater detail, booking your treatment is as simple as a phone call or a visit to the online scheduling page.
